Given the changes compared to the Kenwood TM-271A, the new TM-281A appears to be the "same" as the Baojie BJ-271.
The others I cited last month have a rounder faceplate, angled knobs and the same button placement as the TM-271A.
I'm guessing the board is the same and the case is the only difference.
Unfortunately, due to shipping costs, it seems at this time all we are seeing from China direct are handhelds.
That cost is being driven up by "baby" US ham store owners yelling "me too" and driving the prices up as they start to carry them and include shipping and a profit.
Usury. It's de facto theft when a Japanese company pays a Chinese company to build a product and then tacks on a fee as do the US dealers.
Why should we finance a middleman when there is no need ?
