Warren Weinstein, reported as formerly of USAID, was reported as "kidnapped" by the artificial construct known as "al Qaeda" associated with Pakistan.
First on 13 August he was reported kidnapped:
Gunmen kidnapped an American development expert after tricking his guards and breaking into his house in Pakistan on Saturday, a brazen raid that alarmed aid workers, diplomats and other foreigners who already tread carefully in this country rife with Islamic militancy and anti-U.S. sentiment.
The U.S. Embassy identified the victim as Warren Weinstein. Weinstein is the Pakistan country director for J.E. Austin Associates, a development contractor that has received millions of dollars from the aid arm of the U.S. government, according to a profile on LinkedIn, a networking website.
Then by 1 December, ABC reports among many, that Gehlen org backstop "al Qaeda" has him. Though, admittedly, they once again omitted the words "Gehlen" or "Bormann".
In a newly released audio message, al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri claims that his organization is holding hostage Warren Weinstein, a 70-year-old American who went missing last August in Pakistan.
Zawahiri's statement is the first official claim of responsibility by any group in relation to the kidnapping, and a U.S. official said the statement buttressed earlier "indications" that al Qaeda might be holding the American.
Follow along with my original research.
Weinstein works for J.E. Austin. Also, you can check this version.
Who is J.E. Austin, pardon the pun ?
J.E. Austin's website is registered to Kevin Murphy, who gave as his address 1911 N. Fort Meyer Drive in Arlington, VA.
What's located at that address ?
The Continental Pool Lounge.
That's a strange location for what follows, and claiming their employee was kidnapped by "al Qaeda", don't you think ? There's a crude intelligence ruse here.
J.E. Austin Associates, Inc. (JAA) was founded in 1986 for the purpose of assisting businesses, governments, non-profit organizations, educational and financial institutions, and other development organizations around the world to improve productivity, to enhance competitiveness, to strengthen management and strategy implementation, and to facilitate economic development.
JAA’s practice areas have centered primarily on strategy and management consulting for the development of emerging and developing economies. The focus of this work is on increasing business competitiveness and growth, increasing and enhancing public-private dialogue processes, developing mechanisms in the public and private sectors to improve their competitive advantage, boosting trade and investment opportunities, fostering institutional and organizational improvement, intensifying performance of small and micro-sized enterprises, and expanding social development capabilities of an economy holistically.
JAA stresses the “downloading” of tools, methodologies, and approaches to local partners and ensures that they have the best information, lessons, and skills available to identify and implement initiatives most likely to achieve sustainable results. JAA believes that economic growth, competitiveness, and other development challenges can be addressed by involving and empowering local stakeholders to the maximum extent possible.
Since 1986, JAA has completed more than 500 projects in 100 countries. In any given year, JAA’s professional staffers work on projects in more than 30 countries worldwide. JAA’s primary project experience areas include assignments related to:
Agribusiness and other sectors and industries
Competitiveness initiatives
Corporate strategy
Institutional and organizational change
Management education and work force development
Private sector development
Trade and investment
JAA’s clients include many private companies; national, provincial, and state governments; nongovernmental organizations; and international finance and assistance agencies. JAA has carried out assignments funded by the following donor/lender agencies:
African Development Bank
Asian Development Bank
Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)
European Commission
GTZ
Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
U.K. Department for International Development (DFID)
United Nations (UNDP, UNIDO, UNHCR, UNICEF)
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)
World Bank Group, including the Foreign Investment Advisory Service (FIAS), International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)
Then there's this little coincidence from ABC to the curious case of J.E. Austin that I pieced together:
Some in Pakistan have speculated privately that Weinstein was not a development worker, but instead worked in intelligence for the U.S. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah publicly announced his suspicions, telling local media that Weinstein was involved in "quite suspect" intelligence-gathering for the U.S. government and comparing him to Raymond Davis, the American CIA contractor who was jailed in Pakistan earlier this year for shooting two men on the streets of Lahore.
What's on the menu tonight, wherever and whoever you are, casus belli ?
In exchange for Weinstein's release, Zawahiri requests the lifting of the Israeli "siege" of the Gaza strip, the complete end of "bombings by America and its allies in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and Gaza," the release of all al Qaeda and Taliban prisoners and the closing down of the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo bay, Cuba, in addition to the release of members of Osama bin Laden's family.
"Al Qaeda" should demand the "½ price cuban (sic.) sandwiches until 11pm".
What also makes it strange is that they're all one big happy family in that building, each receiving each others' mail, since no box or suite is given.
What makes it more fun is that both White and Yellow Pages dot com list
2101 Wilson Blvd Ste 1100 Arlington, VA 22201
as the address.
