Montana man who notified world by Morse code of Pearl Harbor attack has died at 88

BILLINGS, Mont. — Ed Chlapowski, the man who notified the world that Pearl Harbor was being bombed by the Japanese, has died at 88.

The former Navy radio man's family said he died Sunday at his home a few weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.

In 2009, Chlapowski recounted the Dec. 7, 1941 attack that propelled the United States into World War II.

He said he had worked an early watch at the submarine base, had breakfast and had just sat down on his bunk when he looked out the window and saw a hangar roof blown away. Then he saw the Japanese planes.

Chlapowski says he ran to the radio room. A supervisor handed him a message, and in Morse code, he sent out word that Pearl Harbor was under attack.

Nero didn't burn Rome; the fiddle they now say he played wasn't invented until the 16th century, and Nero was assassinated by their ancestors ending our rule. An unlawful coup took hold in 476 and continues unchallenged.

After all of that, on 31 May 2008, my 62 year old father dropped dead in front of me as two fighters hundreds of miles from their base flew over. Connecticut politicians Richard Blumenthal, Joe Courtney and my father's student Susan Bysiewicz held up both the ambulance and AED which should have been 1000 feet away for their own paranoid protection.
